To start with, an exclusion should have a
blanket
effect. That is, if an online gambler excludes

that exclusion should extend to all other online
gambling operations (including interactive

• Assistance should be provided with the
diagnosis of
problem gambling. For example, an online
gambling
operator could alert a consumer with an email,
which
states that their gambling patterns are
indicative of
problem gambling.
• Operators will have detailed records of a
consumer’s
gambling patterns, from which they may detect
problem gambling indicators.
• The gambling industry needs to carry out
further
research into methods for accurately identifying
and
assisting problem gamblers.
Money Laundering
• In addition to the various harm-minimisation
policies
for problem gambling, the Committee also
considered other measures that need to be
incorporated into the national regulatory model,
such as privacy, security, proof of identity and
money
laundering.
• The National Crime Authority (NCA) advised the
Committee that online gambling provides
criminals
with the means to launder money.
• In fact, the NCA is aware of known Australian
criminals who are interested in establishing and
investing in online gambling ventures.
